Trade Show Graphic Design

Designing the graphics for a trade show booth can be a difficult prospect. Even the most experienced graphic designer will be challenged to design large graphics in such a way that they quickly and effectively relay the message of your company. This article will provide some tips to help graphic designers make good choices when laying out trade show graphics.

Keep It Simple

You have three seconds or less to grab the attention of passing visitors and attendees, and simple, clean graphic design has been proven to grab attention. Visitors to your booth will not take the time to read what is written on the back wall of your trade show display, so why waste your graphic space with large blocks of text in small print? It is important to remember that you are designing a trade show exhibit, not a museum exhibit. Instead of writing paragraph after paragraph about how fresh your orange juice is, try using a bold, vivid image of a fresh orange instead. Using images to represent your ideas is always better than using words.

Keep It Consistent

Every aspect of your trade show graphic design should relate well with the other aspects of your trade show marketing program. Your trade show display should match your business cards, trade show literature, promotional giveaways, and your company's website. When every aspect of your brand relays a consistent message, your brand-building efforts will pay off.

Keep It On Target

There is no such thing as objectively effective graphic design, but graphic design can be effective within a context. In order to design graphics that have a big impact on your target market, you need to be aware of exactly what kind of people make up your target market. If you plan to target young adults, your graphic design strategy would be much more fresh, clean, and modern than if you were targeting the elderly. If you plan to target women, your graphic design might incorporate more feminine colors and imagery than if you are trying to target Harley Davidson motorcycle riders.
